About Lara Dyson
From humble beginnings Lara began her riding education in ponies under the tuition of Ian and Tracy Woodhead at their Grimsby based Weelsby Riding School. During this time she was successful in Eventing and was long listed for the British Pony team in 1997 and 1998 on a pony she produced from a just backed 4 year old, Black Velvet.
Soon progressing onto Young Riders Lara competed up to Advance Level on board her grey gelding, Ermin Street. In 2001 she won the CCIJ at Aldon, Dorset. However her passion for dressage took over and she diversified her competitive focus towards British Dressage.
"I was encouraged to attend a BYRDS camp by Jess and Fiona Griffiths and it was from here the opportunities began to arise. I would recommend BYRDS to any under 25 rider it was the best thing I ever did! (thanks to the Moodys!)" Lara Dyson.
In 2008 Lara joined the B.Y.R.D.S (British Young Riders Dressage Scheme) Northern Region at the age of 24 and was an active member becoming successful in selection and was chosen to represent the region in Necarne, Ireland in 2008 where she became reserve novice champion with her imported German horse, Cyden Perplex.
Since then Lara joined the Senior team and enjoyed success at the Inter Regionals and reserve National Medium Champion at the Home International in 2009.
2010 was an exciting year having Qualified for the National Championships at Medium and Elementary Music level she came 4th at the Nationals with a score of 70.91% on board her own Cyden Perplex, a horse Lara imported through her German trainer, Elke Funk Hess as a just broken naughty 6 year old! Through hard work and determination she has slowly brought him through the grades and they are now well on their way to achieving their dream of competing at Grand Prix level.
Lara was also highest place amateur having been selected to ride at the Horse of the Year show at Stoneleigh, where 6 amateurs and 6 professionals were selected to ride the amateurs horse. First the amateur performs a medium test on their own horse and then the professional performs the same test on the amateurs horse. Lara was first out of the amateurs and paired up with Rebecca Hughes and ended up 3rd overall.
2011 has been another exciting year for Lara and her Cyden Horses. Lara took the National Medium Restricted TITLE at the Winter National Championships in April with her own Cyden Perplex, qualified Cyden Debonair and Cyden Pinto Z for the regionals at various levels and has spent a lot of time training at the Eilbergs in order to help her achieve her dream of competing at Prix St George in 2012. Lara has also just imported a few new projects from Germany so watch this space!
As well as her successes at riding, Lara has set up Coaching Company "Inspiring Minds Equestrian Coaching" in 2011 with her own coach, David Collins and now runs monthly programmes to help other riders and horse owners remove their fears or riding, competing or general horse worries, see their own website for more information regarding Equestrian Coaching at inspiringmindsequestrian.com
Lara is currently British Dressage Northern Region Riders representative and has also been offered sponsorship from Freedom Dressage store, Alltech in the form of Lifeforce supplement and a scholarship from Adam Gibson Sports Funding.
Away from the yard Lara works full time as Sales Manager for a new homes company, Cyden Homes, based in Lincolnshire, along side running her yard of eleven horses and ponies with a small team of staff, and also managing director of Inspiring Minds Equestrian - coaching company, so 5am mornings and 10pm finishes are a normal way of life for Lara.
